An interesting item for the die-hard fan...These are copies microfilmed images showing famous magician Harry Houdini on ship passenger lists, passport applications, federal censuses, and a WW 1 Draft Registration Card - all the documents I could find are here, even after taking into account name variations and mis-spellings. He is either named as Harry Houdini or his birth name, Erich Weiss (in various spellings). I have transfered them onto a CD-R (Memorex) as JPEG images (.jpg). The above images are much smaller examples just to give you an idea of appearance. The actual images are much larger and readable. You will see things such as family members, addresses, ages, occupations, and other individual's information at the time. They are the one page that Houdini is listed on, with all his information, and the other passengers on that page. (Note that the passenger lists were United States forms, so "S.S." was pre-printed at the top, even though the ship may actually be an "RMS" or other designation).
These are the same documents you could order from the National Archives at costs of over $25/page, and you have to know exactly what to ask for, research is extra. I've already done the "legwork", and can do them for much less, as I have a membership with a 3rd party genealogy service.
Keep in mind that these are microfilmed copies of old documents, and the filled-in information is either typewriter or hand-written, so they will not appear like today's computer-perfect documents. I have straightened and sharpened the images where needed.
Included on this CD:
1880 and 1920 US Federal Census
World War 1 Draft Registration Card (actual image of color photo)
1878 Passenger List, SS Freesia (I have included the first page of the manifest as a reference because it has the ship information. Houdini, as a young boy, Erich Weiss is on the second 1878 image, which was a later page).
1902 Passenger List, SS Deutschland (this one is in German. I have also given you the first two pages because they show the ship information. Houdini is on the 3rd 1902 image as Erich Weiss, and his wife, listed as Wilhelmina
1905 Passenger List, SS Kronprinz Wilhelm
1910 Passenger List, SS Manuka
1911 Passenger List, SS Kronprinzessin Cecilie
1913 Passenger List, SS Kronprinzessin Cecilie
1920 Passenger List, SS Imperator
Also including blank 1880 and 1920 census reproductions for reference.
Hoping people find these interesting. The searching and researching is a bit pain-staking. I plan on offering other celebrity documents as I complete them.
